Cartman and Kyle are at war over the popular cartoon, Family Guy. Kyle loves it and Cartman hates it. When the show airs some controversial content the boys go on a cross country chase with the fate of Family Guy lying with the first boy to reach Hollywood.

The town panics when Family Guy shows an episode with Muhammad as a character, leading townspeople to hide in the Community Center (in a manner reminiscent to "Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow") for fear of a terrorist attack by Islamic extremists. It turns out that Muhammad only appeared in a brief "cutaway gag", and also ends up being censored. It is then revealed that a second half of the two-parter, without censors of Muhammad, will be shown. Kyle, who likes the show, finds no problem and thinks it's wrong to censor Family Guy; shockingly, Cartman actually finds it to be offensive and declares it's wrong to do this. Kyle thinks he is faking, but when Cartman gives an impassioned speech about keeping people from getting hurt, Kyle is guilt-ridden and, after a terrible dream where he and his little brother Ike are killed by a terrorist bomb, agrees to go with Cartman to get the episode pulled.

The people in South Park, however, decide to literally bury their heads in the sand, as a way of showing Islamists they don't want to insult them; on the way to Hollywood, however, Kyle suddenly discovers something shocking — Cartman simply wants Family Guy taken off the air, and wants to use fear to destroy Freedom of speech. Cartman reveals that people always assume he loves Family Guy, when in fact Cartman actually hates Family Guy, as it uses jokes without having a point to them (see Matt Stone and Trey Parker's opinions on Family Guy.). Kyle tells Cartman that it's not right to have Family Guy off the air, but Cartman refuses to listen. He decides to do it alone, but Kyle said he won't let that happen. Kyle and Cartman then start racing on Big Wheels to Hollywood in order to decide the fate of the show.

Kyle loses his Big Wheel as a result of Cartman throwing various objects at him (the Big Wheel also explodes). Cartman manically laughs and bids farwell to Kyle ("So long, Kyle!"). Kyle yells back some profanity as a result of not being able get to Los Angeles. President Bush meets with the FOX executives, who say that something secret about the Family Guy writers must be revealed.

At this point, it is suddenly revealed this is a two-part episode and the conclusion will be explained in the next episode. According to the ending and the "Next Week On South Park" segment, President Bush and Cartman will learn a horrible secret about the Family Guy writers that supposedly "explains everything", while the entire nation buries its head in sand. The Next Week On South Park segment hints that Cartman and Kyle are finally going to have a fight, at last venting years of hatred against each other.

The professor said the people of South Park needed eighteen dozen shovels when explaining his plan to the townspeople. When the Mayor re-explained, she said they needed eight dozen.

* The background music played during the scene where the professor is explaining his plan to the townspeople is from Halo 2.
* Ayman al-Zawahiri's speech in Arabic during live footages from Al Jazeera in which he appears, (while subtitled to reference "how angry Al Qaeda and the Muslim world is of showing Prophet Mohammad") can be translated as follows: "We have told America time and time again that we are at war with them. They bear responsibility for this war because of their support for oppressive, Zionist regime in Israel who continues to kill, maim and commit atrocious acts against Palestinians and other Muslims in all Muslim/Arab lands. Until the aggression against Muslims and Arabs stops, the war will continue."
* The dream scene in which Ike and Kyle are killed in a bomb strike parodies Terminator 2: Judgment Day in which Sarah Connor dreams that innocent people and herself are incinerated by a nuclear warhead.
* In the DVD commentary, Trey Parker and Matt Stone state for the record their opinions on Family Guy. They say that although they respect the show for its fans and making people laugh, and having some smart humor, they ultimately hate the show itself and have absolutely no respect for it writing-wise, namely for its overuse on "gag-humor".
* The music in the "Next Week on South Park" bit at the end of the episode is score from Team America: World Police.
